Expecting to be home and comfortable, Katniss dreams of forgetting the Hunger Games had ever happened. Unfortunately the Capital will not let this incident go by so easily. She has angered them and they are back with a vengeance. Romance, reentering the Hunger Games, a wedding that never happened and an unexpected love triangle forms around Katniss and her family and friends. Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire, is one amazing catch.
I believe overall this book was eye-catching and intriguing to the core. There were many unexpected occurrences Collins has jotted down every now and then especially the surprise of Gale being whipped and that Gale kissed her. I personally prefer that she ends with Peeta more than Gale because Peeta is so devoted to Katniss. Speaking of Peeta, upon returning to District 12 he has become an excellent artist. He even creates his own murals out of his nightmares and still gains recognition because of his fine artwork.
Much has changed during their stay in their district home. Gale has begun work in the coal mines much to Katniss’ dismay and President Snow himself has requested an audience with her threatening to dispose of Gale if she were to cause an uprising in any other districts. She of course agrees as he has evidence of her showing affection to Gale in the privacy of the woods where she believed everything was safe. Collins does a good job adding in the romance twist in here, but it angered me. Gale, I believe, is not a good choice for her; I root for Peeta.
It ends in an epic detail leaving us wondering what will happen next. I was traumatized by what happened at the end and could not wait to see if they would find a way to help save the other champions. In the end this book really got my attention and proved to be an excellent part of the trilogy.
