At Merced’s community park, Applegate, cross country had their second cluster meeting on a sunny Wednesday. When they got off the bus that day, the first thing they did was drop off their stuff under the shade-providing tress, then Debby Clemens, the coach, called out the frosh/soph group, both boys and girls, to go warm up. Their warm up was the race’s route, but when they were running they had to run two laps around that route which made them do two miles.
When the races started, the girl frosh/soph ran first. Pitman girls’ biggest rival is Turlock High’s frosh/soph, and in the race, Pitman lost by one point to them.. After the girls ran the boys took their turn. As they were pumped with adrenaline, bang! The gun shot was heard and they started sprinting. Pitman got a good start, but Turlock was ahead and when they were almost done running they took the wrong turn and led some other runners through the wrong path and one of the Pitman boys followed. After a minute or so another Jared England, sophomore, Pitman runner passed and he went the right way and finished in first place, even though the other runners got there before him. The runners who went the wrong way did not get disqualified, but they just didn’t get their times, but they still got team points.
Lastly, varsity ran. Both groups had to run three miles and the girls ran first. Jamie Ford, senior, got seventh place, but they still ran well. When the boys got their turn, they all did the three miles and while they were finishing up, Isaac Gonzalez, junior, caught up in the front and got first place.
The first cluster meet wasn’t as good as the second meet. Especially because of what happened when the both boy teams ran. Now the last cluster meet is going to be the third and it is going to be held at Buhach
