Teacher nominees, only one prince and princess, and separation of the sexes were just a few of the changes applied to the 2012 Homecoming rally. The theme throughout Homecoming week wasBattleof the Sexes, the girls and guys were determined to outdo their competition. “There is a lot more spirit this year” said Sanmjit Johal, who is a senior this year; “But we can always have more.” ASB, lead by the senior class President Kelsee Derr, put together a completely unique rally this past Friday and students are still talking about it.
The rally began with an amazing performance by the Pitman drumline followed by a flash mob style dance. The presenters rallied up the spirits with a “Pitman Scream”, the girls were announced as the winners to the guy’s dismay.
Next, the nominated couples strode down across the floor in pairs, all of them displayed ecstatic expressions and were greeted by deafening cheers. The couples were followed by a spirited performance by Pitman Cheer.
One of the highlights of the rally was the fantastic variety of games including “Extreme Hanky Panky”, a unique challenge that required two girls and two boys to pull every single tissue out of two Kleenex boxes. “Magic Carpet Ride” showcased two representatives from both the boys and girls cross-country teams. Balloons flew during “Defying Gravity” as volleyball girls competed against soccer boys in a game of keep-the-balloons-in-the-air. Both sides cheered energetically for their team and spirits were high.
A mixed group of girls danced to Justin Beiber’s “Boyfriend” in a humorously choreographed Hip-Hop style dance. To challenge the girls, representatives from our football team arranged an interesting dance to a remix including “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen and “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift. A tie was announced by our teacher judges who were also the teacher nominees, Ms. Perino and Mr. Harris.
The anticipation rose as the nominees stood waiting for the winners to be announced. Our Homecoming prince and princess was Austin Alvaji and Kylie Harvey; the King and Queen was Fernando Jimenez and Melanie Alvarez.
Our rallies are always exciting and unique and Pitman students are anxiously anticipating what ASB will come up with next.
