Who are they? Although they may not be well known, they have a lot to offer. Golf is a very studious game and takes time and commitment. These girls have it! The girls have also graciously welcomed a new head coach, science teacher, Kris Shaw, this year.
The Pitman High School Girl’s golf team consists of eight players. There are three returning team members. Sixteen year old, senior Sienna Samra, a four year starter, with a great game, has lots of experience with the Pitman golf team. She is the team captain and is doing a great job of being a team leader. Sienna is full of energy, and will be missed next year! When asked what her goal was for her senior year, Sienna Samra responded by saying, “For my final year of Pitman High School Golf, I hope to achieve my lowest score yet and leave behind a season to remember.” Sheyenne Sousa and Elizabeth Sommerville are also returning players.Sheyenne, a junior, has a huge personality. Elizabeth, also known as Beth, is a sophomore who has a great sense of humor and attitude.
The majority of the team is made up of new players! New talent, new ideas, and new drive are always welcome along with positive attitudes toward the game. The Pitman team welcomes five new faces! Makiah Lozano, a junior, and Gayden Roberts, a freshman, are new to golf, but have great determination and motivation. I, Taylor Beckwith, a freshman, am new to the team, but I’m not new to the game at all. I have played golf most of my life and hope to add past experience to the team. Jasmine Ryan, a sophomore, and Sheyenne Bailey, a junior, have played golf before, and add motivation to the team.
“Being on the golf team is definitely a new experience for me. The sport is so different than anything I’ve played before. It is the most mentally challenging sport that I’ve had the chance to play. The girls are cool and the sport isn’t too vigorous. It doesn’t get any better than that!” is the response that Makiah Lozano, Junior, gave when asked what it is like to be on the Pitman High School girl’s golf team.
When asked about the team, Coach Shaw said, “We’re young and have some things to work on but we’re definitely developing. I think the girls will grow into a pretty good squad.” The Pride has a goal of a top three CCC finish. I believe that this is totally possible. They have it all; talent, motivation, past experience, a great captain, a new coach, and a positive attitude! Watch out everyone! You have some competition this year! We will have to see if they step up and make the PUTT this year.
