On May 2, 2012, Pitman went head-to-head against Merced High at the Golden Valley Stadium. While the JV boys and girls had already clinched their CCC title for the season, this meet determined the CCC title for the Varsity Girls team, who has won the tile for three years in a row. The JV boys murdered their competition with a final score of 100-17. There was no JV girls’ team for this meet because Merced did not have any girls to run JV. Due to an irrigation problem, the throwers did not get a chance to throw, so their scores will be added on Monday to the scores that have already been posted. The Varsity boys ran a tough meet, but in the end Merced managed to pull ahead with a final score of 64-53. There was noticeable tension between the opposing Varsity girls, as both were competing for the CCC title. In the end, the winning points came down to the jumps. Pitman Varsity girls had secured a 1st and a 3rd in triple jump, and the same for high jump. They also had a 1st and 2nd in long jump until a Merced competitor jumped at the last minute and stole 1st. Merced also took 1st in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. While the thrower’s scores still need to be tallied in, the chances to beat Merced for the title are nonexistent. After a full day of intense competition between the girls, the score ended up 68-50, in favor of Merced.
