In 2003, two teenagers started an organization that became known as TAC, or the Teen Advisory Council. Originally started as a means to get more teenagers to become active in their community, it soon increased in size and numbers. TAC soon became more than just a volunteering club.
As teenagers poured in, so did a number of ideas. Over the course of nine years, TAC has held innumerable events that has somehow helped and shaped this community. In the past, it has held events such as Fall Funtastic, a day designed for younger children to have fun with arts and crafts and other various activities. It has also held golf tournaments, volunteered at senior centers, and more recently, cell phone drives to give soldiers overseas opportunities to call home.
This month, TAC is holding a book drive for children. With the goal of 500 lightly or gently used children’s books to donate, TAC is in need of books. The goal is to collect these books and give it to the Child Protective Services as a means of spreading literacy around the community. This is a vital way to spread the importance of reading. So for this month, if anyone is willing to donate, drop books off at the Recreation Office in downtown Turlock.
