Terrell Owens, a six-time pro bowler and holder of many NFL records, is one of the greatest receivers to ever play the game. Owens is six feet three inches tall and two hundred twenty-five pounds, these characteristics have greatly aided to his success in the NFL. A natural born athlete who played college football and basketball and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he was drafted into the NFL in the third round as the eighty-ninth pick in the 1996 NFL draft. The NBA was another option for Terrell but he opted to play in the NFL.
Terrell Owens began his career playing for the San Francisco 49ers, where he established himself as a dominant player. After an illustrious seven year career, Owens split from the 49ers and began playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. Owens had very controversial two seasons with Eagles which led to him being released. Approximately four days after being released, the Dallas Cowboys signed Terrell to a three year, $25 million deal. When his contract expired the Cowboys decided not to resign him, which sent him to a one year deal with the Buffalo Bills. After his season with the Bills, Owens joined the Cincinnati Bengals on another one year contract. During the 2011 offseason, Owens suffered from a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his knee. This injury required reconstructive surgery so the Bengals decided not to resign him, worrying that this injury would affect his play in the future.
It has been about seven months and Owens has recovered from his knee injury and reconstructive surgery. Terrell is hoping for another opportunity in the NFL and now at thirty-seven years old, he has a lot to prove. Last Tuesday, the twenty-fifth, Owens held an open workout in Casablanca, California to show NFL teams that he still has the athletic capability to play in the NFL. Unfortunately, no NFL teams sent any scouts to view his performance. Owens will surely receive an offer from a NFL team, the only question is when. The only offer Terrell has received thus far is from the Chicago Rush, a team from the Arena Football League (AFL).
Apart from football, Terrell Owens has appeared on many television shows and currently has his own show, The T.O. Show which focuses on Owens’ personal life off of the football field and it airs on VH1. As of now, Terrell Owens has accumulated 1,078 receptions, 15,934 receiving yards, and 153 receiving touchdowns in his career. Terrell Owens also holds or shares numerous records in the NFL. Hopefully we will get to see this future hall of famer play once again.
