This past Saturday, people from all around Turlock gathered at the Turlock Fairgrounds to help support the Pitman High School Band on their journey to Washington D.C. This weekend was the fundraising kick-off event to get the public aware of efforts being made to raise over $100,000. The night was a completely free concert in the park, with vending booths from Me-N-Ed’s Pizzeria and Crivelli’s—who also helped by donating a share of their profits to the Pitman Marching Pride. The Pitman Marching Band performed a short set that consisted of: America the Beautiful, the Star Spangled Banner, the Purple Carnival, and the VMI Fight Song. The Pitman High drum line also performed a short piece. For the rest of the night, the Pitman High Jazz Band set a nice mood for a night under the stars.
The fundraising event was a huge success. Among those whom attended were the many important guests from the District Office, and even a representative from the mayor’s office. Many donations and profits were also made from attendees and vendors alike. The band sounded great and everyone was uplifted by the high spirit atmosphere.
The kick-off began a nine month struggle to fund over $100,000 before April of 2012. Mr. Modesto, band members, and parents are all hopeful to reach this goal. The fundraising kick-off was a great success; the band is off to an exciting start!
