This year, Pitman will participate in Red Ribbon Week from October 24 to 28. Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and most successful anti-drug campaign in the country which educates students about the dangers of using drugs. Pitman will be one of the hundreds of schools across the country that will participate in this unique campaign. This year, Pitman will not only focus on being drug free, but will also promote the concept of living a healthy lifestyle. Pitman will be going all out for this week. Don’t believe me?
Here is the schedule for next week that shows the different activities Pitman is putting on in order to provide a fun week that will educate students.
Monday: Students will receive their Red Ribbon Week bracelets that symbolize their stance against using drugs. When students wear the bracelet, they will also be able to win prizes throughout the week. In other words, no bracelet, no prize.
Tuesday: Pitman’s PHAST Club (Promoting Health and Slamming Tobacco) will be out during lunch with their own booth. This booth will be set up with pamphlets, posters, and other informational devices. Any student can visit the table, learn more about the dangers of tobacco, and see the notorious “tar jar” on display.
Wednesday: Drunk goggles day. Wednesday, during lunchtime, students will be able to volunteer to try on these “drunk goggles”. These rather special goggles, when put on, create the impression that one is drunk. So, if you would like to participate in an example of what the required tests are like when individuals are pulled over by the police (or you want a good laugh) stop by this entertaining demonstration.
Thursday: Like I mentioned before, Pitman is going all out for Red Ribbon Week. We are not only promoting a drug free campus, but we also promote healthy living. On Thursday, an obstacle course will be provided for anyone who is wearing their Red Ribbon bracelets. The details are a surprise, but there will be prizes, so get your team together today!
Friday: Sumo suits, yoga, jump rope, and push-ups. What do these things have in common? They will all be seen Friday during lunch. On October 28, Pitman will be getting “fit for the future” (get it?). All students are invited to participate in a yoga class, a jump rope contest, a push up contest, and aerobics during lunch. Students can dress in athletic clothing or active wear and participate in a custom workout. If you are the kind of person who trips over their own feet, you can watch the sumo wrestling. Teachers and students alike will be able to wrestle in the sumo suits provided by PHAST Club. On this day, there will be something for everyone. There are no excuses not to come out at lunch.
