They say “Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect” (accredited to Demi Lovato who is attempting to help the world realize how wonderful everyone is just the way they are). But is it even true? Love is loud but is it louder than the pressure to be perfect? Can it be stronger than the wrath of society which expects you to be perfect?
Society mentally pressurizes people to not accept yourself the way you are, and if you do accept yourself, for even a minute, think that you’re not that bad then society tugs and pulls on you until you fall off that first step of the ladder you climbed. Everyone faces pressure but the worst pressure of all, in my opinion, is the pressure to be perfect because from its countless abilities, the pressure to be perfect is able to tackle hopes, dreams, and the confidence with which you dream and hope.
Why should society determine what perfect will be when society itself does not meet its own standards? Who gives society this right? Well, believe it or not, we ourselves do; we give society this right. We believe in these norms set by society and we follow them allowing it to dictate us as well as our own lifestyles. We change our lifestyle to suit society’s perception of perfect or should I say what everyone should supposedly be like.
Every diverse group has their own “perfect” which they believe in and follow. Perfection for the teenage group is: straight A’s, the most “in” clothes, the beautiful or handsome face, the sexy body figure made with either curves or built muscles, the most friends, the “perfect” hair, being in the so-called “popular” posse, being involved through clubs and volunteering etcetera, the “right” height, the “right” weight, flawless relationships with the opposite gender, a wonderful understanding family, and an excellent reputation even by character. This is the pressure teens face because this is the perfect contemplated by everyone with a few adjustments according to the group being considered. The teenage years are specifically difficult due to this reason itself: the pressure to be perfect. This perfect, however, in our world is unfortunately determined by society. The strange thing about this is that there has been and there is no such person after whom society has idealized their perfect.
Stress is not all that comes from the pressure to be perfect but low self esteem, a growing issue for the teenage group, which kills many teens, is also procured. Low self esteem does not only cause suicide but it also invokes bullying which becomes the cause of other suicide cases among the youth of today and the future of our tomorrow. If we can make one person feel better about themselves, then that one person can spread the message amongst their peers.
Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect. Love is more valuable than the pressure to be perfect because the pressure to be perfect is everywhere you look but love… Love is only and only in your heart. Love is stronger because love has the ability to hurt, please, anger, and return love with love whereas the pressure to be perfect only has the ability to pressurize and hurt.
Love can be louder than the pressure to be perfect if you allow it. Love can be stronger than the wrath of society which expects you to be perfect if you allow it. Love yourself and allow Love to be louder. Love and accept others and allow Love to be stronger.
