Friday April 2nd, Pitman swimmers got onto the bus at 7:00 am to get ready to go to Johansen for the Stanislaus County Meet. The meet was for varsity swimmers and we all knew how long and exhausting the day was going to be. After warm ups the meet started. They started off with the 200 medley relay Katherina Galvan, Brittany Funk, Kamarin Waite and Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl took fifth overall out of sixteen teams. After waiting for what seemed like forever it was finally time for the 200 free everyone from pitman did really well Anna Porter took first in her heat and Sam Romeo took second behind Anna but it was Brittany Funk who grabbed the points for pitman placing fourth overall. Finally the men were done with their free and we could move the meet along to event number five, the 200 IM. Kamarin Waite did amazing getting more points for the Pride by taking fourth out of forty- two girls however everyone else including Kelli Coffelt did very well as well. The clouds were taking over the sun and the meet was moving so slow but finally the IM’s were finished and so were the 50 free’s and we could start the 100 fly. Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl took fifth overall and Kelli Coffelt improved her time for the second week in a row down to a 1:07. They finished up the rest of the heats and began on 100 yard freestyle. Alexis Porter dove into the water, she was so determined to win and all of her friends there were cheering her on the whole time, she sprinted her best it paid off she swam a 1:01 and she won her heat taking tenth overall. Then finally it was time for the big one, the 500 free with five heats that each would take up to six or more minutes each, everyone was in for a long at least hour( including the boys). Emma Burke swam in place of Christiana Ushana, it was Emma’s first time swimming the 500, she swam it in about a 6:34 which is pretty good for twenty laps and your first time racing that. Brittany Funk was also in that event and there was a huge crowd sitting at the end of her (and Emma’s) lane cheering her on, I guess it worked as she took fourth overall and swam it in a 5:36. after those heats were done we could finally move on to the 200 free relay where Anna and Alexis Porter Taylor Jarvis and Emma Burke swam and got seventh out of sixteen. The pitman pride varsity girls placed third overall, not bad for only having thirteen girls probably half of what every other team had.
The boys did okay for only having about six guys. For the 100 butterfly Myles Garton did really good taking eleventh out of approximately forty-two guys. Scott Van Winkle placed fourteenth in the 100 free which is pretty good, Brian Austin took fifteenth in the 500 free and Michael Montalvo took sixteenth in the 500 free which is good as well. Finally the guys took ninth in the 200 free relay. Overall Pitman High did very well for not having that many swimmers, every single one of the swimmers that were there should be extremely proud of the way that they swam.
