Pitman’s 2011 JV baseball team has started the season off with a phenomenal record of 7-1. All of their wins were by six or more runs, therefore proving that they have a strong hitting lineup. They recently participated in the Oakdale Tournament this weekend, beating Sonora earlier in the week and then Turlock on Saturday (6-1). Prior to the tournament, the Pitman JV team was undefeated with a 7-0 record but unfortunately lost to Enochs 8-9 in extra innings for the championship.
Furthermore Pitman was beating Enochs 8-2 going into the 6th inning (High School baseball game regulation is 7 innings) but a heartbreaking comeback caused Pitman’s first lost of the season. This loss was not only disappointing because it was a Championship game, but because the whole team was under the pressure of last year’s perfect season with an outstanding record of 27-0 winning both tournaments that they were in.
Leading the team with the best batting average is Brennan Hauser (.522) and Zach Gurr (.500) who are both returners from last year’s undefeated team. The team’s batting average is .348 with 74 runs scored compared to 22 runs allowed. Pitman’s JV pitching ace, Jordan Gonzalez, has yet to allow a run in all of his starts and the team’s ERA is 3.11 meaning that they allow an average of only three runs a game.
With the two returners from last year and an exceptional 7-1 start, winning league looks really promising which starts on March 15th against Golden Valley.
