During this past summer, the widely loved Qdoba burrito restaurant closed down. Many assumed that rival restaurant Chipotle was the culprit for the shut down. But recently, however, it became apparent that the Qdoba chain was bought out by the Southern California chain, Freebirds.
Before Freebirds opened it’s doors, it let out an offer. The first 25 people to enter the restaurant on the day it opened, would get free burritos for a year.
A few people heard this offer and simply couldn’t resist. This group of people includes some students who attend Pitman. Kyle Brown, Joel Soria, and David Liles, all seniors, were just a few waiting in line to be one of the 25 “Freebird Fanatics.”
They all stayed over night to be the first in the morning. Kyle himself waited approximately 26 hours.
The question they get asked the most is, “where did you go the bathroom?” When I asked them this question, they said they either went to the nearby Chevron or KFC.
Those who waited were acknowledged by local news sources such as The Turlock Journal, The Modesto Bee, and even Good Morning America.
These events have also publicised the new restaurant. Even though it opened about 2 weeks ago, Freebirds seems to always be packed.
Those who come to Freebirds can expierence a very calm, “chill” expierence. The restaurant runs “cafeteria style” similar to how Subway, Chipotle, and the old Qdoba ran.
If you have a hefty appetite, you will love Freebirds. Freebirds offers up 4 sizes of burrito. The names of the sizes are the Hybird, the Freebird, the Monster, and the Super Monster. Each burrito, no matter what the size, is filled to the limit that the tortilla can hold. If you domt hold it right, then your burrito will definitely fall apart.
Freebirds adds to an already competitve burrito industry in Turlock. Just down the street is a similar restaurant Chipotle. Chipotle usually gets good business, and always maintained more customers than Qdoba. But ever since Freebirds came into town, Chiptole has been downgraded to the “backup plan” in case Freebirds is too crowded.
All in all, Freebirds is a quality restaurant that anyone can have a good time at. If you havent tried it yet, I strongly recommend you give Freebirds a try. You just might become a “Freebirds Fanatic.”
